Bacteriologist Sir Alexander Fleming

Sir Alexander Fleming (6 August 1881 – 11 March 1955) was born in Lochfield, Scotland, a Scottish scientist, in particular, biologist and pharmacologist. He published many articles on bacteriology, immunology and chemotherapy.

Fleming’s best-known achievements are his discovery of the enzyme lysozyme (1923) and penicillin, an antibiotic substance derived from the fungus Penicillium notatum in 1928, for which he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1945) with Howard Walter Florey and Ernst Boris Chain.
