Empress Josephine of France
Lefty Celebrant Today, June 23:
Empress Josephine of France (1763-1814)
Josephine was consort of Napoleon I and empress of France. She was born Marie Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie. Her first marriage to Vicomte Alexandre de Beauharnais ended with his death in the Reign of Terror.
She married Napoleon in 1796 as the young officer rose to military fame. He was forgiving of her infidelity and indiscretions. Her inability to bear him a son make him seek a marriage annulment but he remained generous and devoted to her.
