Happy New Year!
No, it’s not lefty Charlemagne’s birthday (he was born April 2, 742) but we have him to thank for January 1 as New Year’s Day.
It was Emperor Charlemagne who established our present calendar – as he made the first New Year’s Day – January 1, A.D. 799.
