Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821), was a military and political leader of France whose actions shaped European politics in the early 19th century. He was known as Napoleone di Buonaparte and later, as Napoleon I.
He was born in Corsica and trained as an artillery officer in mainland France and rose to prominence under the Frist French Republic and led successful campaigns against the Coalitions arrayed against France.
He married Josephine in 1796.
In 1799, he staged a coup e’etat installing himself as First Consul. Five years later he crowned himself Emperor of France. In the first decade of the 19th century, he turned the armies of the French Empire against every major European power and dominated continental Europe through a series of military victories. He maintained the sphere of influence of France by forming extensive alliances including appointment of friends and family members to rule other European countries.
