American President Barack Obama, 44th U.S. President

Barack Hussein Obama II is born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a Kenyan father and American mother. the 44th and current President of the United States of America and the first African American to hold the to hold the office.  Obama served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois, from January 2005 until he resigned following his victory in the 2008 presidential election.

Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School. He was president of the the Harvard Law Review. Before earning his law degree, he was a community organizer in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. From 1997 t9 2004 he served three terms representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate.

Following an unsuccessful bid against the Democratic incumbent for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 2000, Obama ran for U.S. Senate in 2004. He won election to the U.S. Senate in Illinois in November 2004. His presidential campaign began in February 2007.

In the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries he won his party’s nomination after a close campaign against Hillary Rodham Clinton. He defeated Republican nominee John McCain, and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009.

Obama was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

This left-hander U.S. president lived a culturally diverse life as as a senator, civil-rights lawyer, writer. He is author of two books, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

He is married to Michelle Robinson Obama, the 44th U.S. First Lady.  They have two daughters: Malia and Sasha.

In April 2011, Obama declared his intention to seek re-election in the 2012 presidential election.
