Since African American Hattie McDonald who won the Academy Award (more than 50 years ago) for her role in Gone with the Wind, Whoopi Goldberg was the first African American to win the same award. Goldberg won the best supporting actress for her role in the movie Ghost, with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

Lefthanded Whoopi Goldberg (born Caryn Johnson), started performing at 8 years old with the Helena Rubinstein Children’s Theater in New York.  Her looks were thought to be too unconventional to land her job as an actress, however, she went on to become a highly successful Hollywood actress and comedian.

Actress Demi Moore

American actress Demi Guynes Kutcher is born on November 11, 1962. She is known professionally as Demi Moore.  After minor roles in films and the soap opera General Hospital, Moore established her career in films such as  St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), and in the early 1990s, became one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood with her successes in  Ghost (1990) wit Patrick Swayze,  A Few Good Men (1992) with Tom Cruise,  Indecent Proposal (1993) with Robert Redford, and Disclosure (1994) with Michael Douglas.

Moore has been married to actor Ashton Kutcher since 2005. She took her professional name from her first husband, musician Freddy Moore. She is the mother of three daughters from her marriage to actor Bruce Willis of Die Hard  fame.

In 2001 Ladies Home Journal ranked her as the 11th most powerful woman in America, beating out then national security advisor Condoleezza Rice and former first lady, Laura Bush.

Greta (Lovisa Gustafsson) Garbo (18 September 1905 – 15 April 1990), was born in Stockholm. She was a Swedish actress during Hollywood’s silent film years and also a part of its Golden Age. Garbo was considered as one of the greatest movie stars ever produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and the Hollywood studio system. She received a 1954 Honorary Academy Award ”for her unforgettable screen performances” and in 1999 was ranked as the fifth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.
